We went to Chick-Fil-A for dinner this evening. Upon ordering the “usual”, I had the quick thought of trying to choose the healthier option and ordered fruit for a change. I immediately had remorse and changed it back to the waffle fries, laughing it off while explaining to the cashier that I came really close to choosing the healthier option, but just didn’t want to this evening. I’m sure she was trying to make me feel better for changing my mind, but what the cashier said next, made me smile. With a grin, she said, “Well, our waffle fries aren’t “as unhealthy”…I mean, they have holes in them.” LOL…Bless her heart. I thanked her for trying to help me feel better about my decision, paid and found a seat.
I found her comment humorous, but it also served as a reminder to me that Perspective Is Everything. I read a quote from Abraham Lincoln which stated, “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice that thorn bushes have roses.” How many times have you thought to yourself, “How can two people look at the exact same situation and see something completely different?”
I know it is easier said than done, but I’ve discovered many times in life that if I can change my perspective about something, it will help me endure a tough situation. Thankfully, my husband, as well as many other family members possess the ability to see things from a different perspective and know how to lovingly express their perspective to me when I’m struggling with something. “Lovingly” is the key word. If you’re like me, you are already trying your hardest to keep from drowning from the stress, so the last thing we need is someone who spouts off unsolicited opinions about everything we are trying our best to manage. I pray each of you have at least one person in your life who knows how to lovingly offer their perspective to you when needed. If not, be on the look out because that type of support is sometimes hard to find, but is a true blessing to have when things are rough.
Jesus demonstrated to us the importance of perspective when he was hanging on the cross. He could have focused on the pain or even anger towards others who were hurting him, but instead, he focused on the joy that was soon to follow. Whoa…that’s a big example to follow!
While we are on the topic of perspective…Thank you, sweet cashier at Chick-Fil-A, you have changed my perspective tonight. Since the waffle fries have holes, this makes them “holy”. One of the synonyms for holy is divine. I agree…the waffle fries taste DIVINE. Surely, somewhere in the bible it talks about holy fries, right?
Thanks for putting up with my weirdness and allowing me to share what’s been on my heart…Love you all!
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
