Flipping Birds & Flipping Burgers

Dear Double Drive-Thru,

Being a non-confrontational person, I’ve bottled up this burning question for long enough.  Why do you have to be so difficult?

First, I thought it might be the time of day I was trying to travel your narrow, highly populated path.  I’ve given you multiple opportunities at different times of the day and the results are almost always the same.  A quick morning breakfast usually turns into a long, torturous process.  A late afternoon pick-me-up usually turns into a let-me-down.  I’ve even given you a chance later in the evening and you provided me with someone else’s order.   This, of course, forced me to endure yet another trip around the building through your entire painful process again.  Oh and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to stare at the glob of chewed up gum plastered on the ordering screen.  It really helped my appetite while I was ensuring my order was entered correctly.

I must give you credit, though.  You never fail to give me a show.  I mean, if it weren’t for you, I would have to find a different place to get caught up on my email or Facebook scrolling.  I would also have to find a different place to witness full grown adults “flipping birds” at other drivers while the employees are “flipping burgers” inside.  This tells me I’m not the only one who despises the two lane, merge to one chaos.

I really try to enter the queue with a patient spirit, but regret sets in almost immediately for attempting to get in line.  I try not to take it personally as I sit in gridlock, watching five cars pass me in the other ordering lane.  As I write this, I think we may need to part ways for a while because the entire experience from entry to exit is just dreadful.  By the way, it adds tons of fun when one pulls up to the window and gets handed a dripping wet cup of soda, creating a need for napkins before pulling it through the car window.

I know I’ll continue to visit you off and on, but I sure would appreciate knowing your secret to a quick, pleasant, stress-free experience.

Sincerely,

Someone who wants to love you, but just isn’t there, yet.
