Why T-Shirt & Yoga Pants?

Since I became a mom in 2005, I’ve opted for simple and comfortable. VERY RARELY do I choose shoes that wedge me much higher than my 5’3″ stature. It’s got to be something pretty important for me to choose to wear pants that don’t have a comfortable waist band. Hey, I admire those who wear trendy outfits and look so put together because there are SO many cute clothes out there! Who knows, maybe someday, my preferences will change. I think we all want to feel “trendy” at times. But, I have to admit…when I see a cute outfit on someone, I wonder if they are comfortable or if they can’t wait to get home, throw it on the floor and slip on their “comfy” pants (that’s what we call them around our house).

When my son was diagnosed with leukemia, I was told he would be flown the next day to Memphis, TN. Then, I was told I should go home and pack for 6-8 weeks. Luckily, I was blessed with a sweet friend who recognized my need and came over to do laundry from midnight to 3:00am while forcing me to lay down for a few hours to rest my emotionally, physically, mentally worn out body before hopping in the car to drive 4 hours to meet up with my husband and son the next morning in Memphis.

I knew I wasn’t there to impress anyone, so I mostly packed t-shirts and yoga pants. Nothing about the first 6 1/2 weeks was fun, but at least my trusty t-shirt and yoga pants kept me comfortable. One of my closest cancer mom friends from Memphis and I still joke about having our “Uniform” on. Her go-to outfit? Yep…you guessed it! T-Shirt & Yoga Pants.

There are a few things that have been with me through this entire cancer journey. #1. God-I’ve felt his constant presence #2. My out-of-this-world husband, wise-beyond-her-years daughter and my brave little boy, as well as many other family and friends #3. My t-shirt & yoga pants

Over the past year, I’ve been making a note every time a daily task or even a basic annoyance turns into a spiritual lesson for me.  Truth is, if you’re willing to slow down, look and listen, God is faithful to teach you no matter what you’re doing.  I am thankful that my son’s treatments are going well and we have 15 months of the 2 1/2 years behind us.  But, like all cancer moms, the past 15 months of my life have been filled with much stress, fear, seriousness and tears.  I’m always looking for a laugh and it’s funny to me how God has revealed his sense of humor to me by teaching me a lesson at the weirdest times.  I hope the lighthearted, practical and spiritual lessons I’ve learned will be a blessing to you and give you some laughs along the way.
